Freedom's Gate

Last night I attended a Constitution Fireside. It was WONDERFUL.....people dressed as our founding fathers with the spoken word and inspired music. I wrote the following as I pondered what this country means to me.....

Is it just a piece of paper
Written long ago
By forefathers on parchment
Or....did God's will they know?
Was it just happenstance
They sacrificed in pain
So that we....today would be free.
Their loss became our gain.
Was the Constitution
Old fashioned....now out of date
Or....are the words reborn
To open freedom's gate?
As we voice our daily words
May we be found to speak
In patriotic echoes
Then....kneel at Father's feet.
